World Diabetes Day is observed globally to raise awareness about the growing health threat posed by diabetes and to promote its prevention, early detection, and effective management. In recognition of this international health initiative, PharmD students at Fakeeh College for Medical Sciences (FCMS) organized a campus-wide Diabetes Awareness Campaign. This student-led event aimed to educate the college community about diabetes risk factors, treatment options, lifestyle modifications, and complications associated with poorly managed diabetes.

• Promote evidence-based strategies for diabetes prevention and early detection.
• Educate students and staff on the role of pharmacists in diabetes management.
• Distribute educational materials and healthy giveaways to encourage lifestyle changes.

The World Diabetes Day campaign was organized by PharmD students who prepared educational posters, flyers, and interactive stations to provide information on diabetes prevention, treatment options, and the management of long-term complications such as neuropathy and retinopathy. Healthy snacks and giveaways were also distributed to promote better lifestyle habits. The event fostered student participation in public health advocacy and strengthened their role as future healthcare professionals.

145 students from different programs attended the activity nursing, and MLS programs

Survey results: 4.7/5 (94%)
Attendees appreciated the clarity and helpfulness of the information provided, with many expressing motivations to adopt healthier habits and seek screening for diabetes risk.
Conclusion:
The World Diabetes Day Awareness Campaign was a successful student-led initiative that effectively raised awareness about one of the most prevalent chronic diseases in the region. It provided PharmD students with valuable experience in community health promotion and patient education. The event reinforced the importance of interprofessional collaboration and preventative health strategies, aligning with FCMS’s mission to develop competent, compassionate, and community-focused healthcare professionals.
