Artificial Intelligence Workshop

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the landscape of healthcare and medical education by enabling smarter decision-making, predictive analytics, and enhanced learning experiences. Recognizing its growing importance, Fakeeh College for Medical Sciences (FCMS) organized an interactive AI Workshop to introduce students to the fundamentals of AI and its practical applications in healthcare. The workshop provided an overview of how AI tools are being used to support clinical decision-making, automate routine tasks, and improve patient outcomes. It also emphasized the ethical considerations and limitations associated with AI in the medical field.

Goals and Objectives

  • Introduce the basic concepts and terminology related to artificial intelligence.
  • Explore the current and emerging applications of AI in healthcare and education.
  • Demonstrate how AI can contribute to improving clinical accuracy and efficiency.
  • Raise awareness of the ethical, legal, and professional challenges related to AI use.
  • Encourage students to engage with innovative technologies shaping the future of medicine.

Description of learning outcomes achieved through the activity

Participants gained a foundational understanding of AI, including machine learning, natural language processing, and data-driven decision-making. The workshop enabled students to critically evaluate how AI can assist in diagnosing diseases, predicting patient outcomes, and personalizing treatment plans. It also improved their digital literacy and readiness to adopt AI technologies responsibly in clinical practice. Discussions during the workshop prompted reflection on ethical issues such as data privacy, algorithmic bias, and the role of human oversight. Overall, students left with enhanced awareness of how AI complements—not replaces—clinical judgment.
